Judge considers Los Angeles as home to shunned Santa Barbara violent sex offender
Kenneth Rasmuson is a convicted child rapist who served prison time in the early 1980s for raping an 11-year old boy and upon his conditional release kidnapped, raped and left roaming naked in the woods a 3-year old boy. After 20 years in prison and Atascadero State Mental Hospital, he was released to the county of his last residence: Santa Barbara. Even though he is Jessica’s Law compliant – wearing a GPS device and living outside of 2,000 feet of public schools or other places where children gather, he has been rejected by the citizens and community leaders of Santa Barbara County. They have flatly rejected the notion of having a serial child rapist in their neighborhood. Now an appeal has been made to send Rasmuson to Los Angeles County. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dennis Landin has scheduled a hearing on Feb. 6 to determine if Rasmuson should be allowed to live in LA County. Specifically, three home sites have been reviewed in the past week in the Antelope Valley. In response to this egregious attempt to dump Santa Barbara’s problem into LA County neighborhoods, local elected and community leaders gathered on Jan. 25 with 200 concerned Antelope Valley residents and business leaders to discuss this issue and how it ought to be handled. We believe Judge Landin should hear the voices of LA County residents loud and clear through a variety of communication means: - Send an email (download sample or see below) and make sure to carbon copy Sen. Runner, Assemblywoman Runner and Supervisor Antonovich.
Judge Landin’s email address is: dlandin@lasuperiorcourt.org - Send a letter (download sample or see below)
- Attend the hearing (we will provide additional information regarding transportation and logistics in the next few days).
- Do all of the above
Please forward this email to your neighbors, friends, clergy or anyone else in your neighborhood who values safety and security in LA County. For more information, please call 661-729-6232 or 661-723-3368
Sample email to judge Dear Judge Landin, I am writing to express my frustration that Kenneth Rasmuson, who raped a 3-year-old little boy the last time he was conditionally released, is being considered for placement in Los Angeles County. The law is clear that such individuals are to be returned to the county of their last domicile, and that is clearly Santa Barbara County. Just because community members of Santa Barbara don’t want him in their neighborhoods, does not mean that Los Angeles County residents should be saddled with this problem, nor our children made less safe. Please protect LA County residents and make sure Rasmuson stays where he belongs. Sincerely, YOUR NAME Cc: Senator George Runner, george.runner@sen.ca.gov Assemblywoman Sharon Runner, sharon.runner@asm.ca.gov Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, FifthDistrict@lacbos.org
